Chapter 1165: Yangyang Is Awake!
Editor: Henyee Translations
If Qin Shuzhen fell into her hands, Tong Rao would undoubtedly feed her to Crocodile.
The most shameless thing Tong Rao had ever done was resort to such dirty tactics against women. Even though she hated Qin Shuzhen, she had never considered using those same methods for revenge. Her approach to dealing with those she despised had always been straightforward and brutal–feeding them to crocodiles.
She glanced at Tong Wan. “Your taste in best friends is average, but your taste in men isn’t bad.”
Back then, she hadn’t expected Xiao Dingkun to insist on marrying Tong Wan, who had been expelled from the family. Even after Tong Wan spent 18 years in a coma, Xiao Dingkun remained resolute.
Meanwhile, her own taste in men had been abysmal.
Tong Wan had heard about Zuo Yuanyi and Luo Fangfei deceiving Tong Rao. She wanted to offer comfort but feared it would only embarrass her.
“Stop looking at me with pity. I don’t need men. People say I’m lonely at the top, but they’ve just never experienced the joy of standing there,” Tong Rao declared, raising her head proudly.
Tong Wan studied her for a moment, then smiled. “Ah Rao, I’ve always thought you were the most suitable person to be the Family Head of the Tong family.”
At those words, Tong Rao paused, her expression softening briefly before she snorted. “Then I don’t need your concession.”
Tong Rao couldn’t shake the thought of how Tong Wan had forsaken her chance at becoming the Successor Family Head. Back then, many elders supported Tong Wan, who possessed the talent of an S-rank hypnotist, for the position of Family Head.
Recognizing Tong Rao’s pride, Tong Wan said, “I’m not trying to impose. I just think you’re more suitable.”
Tong Rao sneered. “If you’re not imposing, then you’re giving up on the Family Head election to marry Xiao Dingkun.”
Tong Wan was momentarily speechless. Why didn’t that make sense?
Tong Rao lifted her chin. “It’s hard for love to flourish. Facts have shown that letting me be the Family Head is the best choice.”
With a helpless sigh, Tong Wan replied, “Yes, yes, yes. You are very powerful.”
Noticing the weariness in Tong Wan’s eyes, Tong Rao decided against further argument. Instead, she asked, “Is your precious daughter still unconscious?”
Tong Wan shook her head, disappointment evident on her face.
During this time, she had kept herself busy managing the Ye family’s affairs and sending Qin Shuzhen to prison. Yet whenever she paused, thoughts of her daughter in a coma overwhelmed her.
She feared her daughter might end up like her, unconscious for more than a decade.
At her prime, with her best years just beginning, Tong Wan felt a deep sense of dread.
Seeing the tears welling in Tong Wan’s eyes, Tong Rao frowned and tossed a tissue onto the table. “Don’t worry; she’s stronger than you. She won’t be out for ten to twenty years like you were.”
“Thank you.”
Although these words were unpleasant to hear, Tong Wan knew that Tong Rao was comforting her.
At this moment, Tong Wan’s phone suddenly rang.
She took out her phone and saw that it was a call from her son, Xiao Yize. “I’ll take this call.”
Tong Rao nodded.
Xiao Yize’s excited voice came from the other end of the phone. “Mom, Jin just said in the group chat that Yangyang is awake!”
“What?!”
Tong Wan suddenly stood up, tears streaming down her face. Her voice trembled, and her eyes sparkled with hope. “Alright, I’ll be right there.”
Fearing it might all be a dream, she didn’t take a moment to say goodbye to Tong Rao and rushed out the door.
Yan Xi was equally surprised. “Yangyang is awake!”
Tong Rao watched as Tong Wan’s figure disappeared from sight. Turning to Yan Xi, she instructed the butler, “Send a congratulatory gift to the Xiao family tomorrow.”
Yan Xi smiled at Tong Rao. “Mother, you don’t actually hate Aunt Tong Wan as much as people say.”
Tong Rao shot her a glance. “You think you’re clever, making wild guesses. The interests of aristocratic families are intertwined; relationships must be maintained.”
Yan Xi countered, “So when you hated Aunt Tong Wan the most, you never seriously considered feeding her to the crocodiles, did you?”
