Chapter 958: Chapter 958: The Rivers Change Color Chapter 958: Chapter 958: The Rivers Change Color Starfire had also lost quite a few people by now, with less than four thousand remaining.
Looking at the data, even without counting the players killed by Li Yao and the Angel, Starfire’s battle achievements were quite spectacular.
But the problem was that numbers didn’t matter; no matter how many points Starfire might have accumulated, if they were eliminated, it was game over.
Surviving with enough points was the only way to secure the last laugh.
If they lost some more manpower, they wouldn’t even be able to defend this stronghold.
The guild was not short of players with the ability to resurrect in battle, but battle resurrection typically had a minimum cooldown of twenty minutes. Continuous combat made it impossible to catch up with resurrections.
“These guys have just regrouped; after another battle, once I clear out the enemies in the water, we’ll retreat,” Li Yao said as he flew straight to the wooden wall facing the defensive river with his wings.
Upon hearing Li Yao’s words, Starfire instantly gained confidence, knowing that Li Yao still had other cards to play and means of retreat, indicating that the upper management had already made arrangements.
Starfire had too many strategies, and Li Yao had created too many miracles, boosting the members’ confidence immensely.
Li Yao, with a tap of his foot, flew up to a relatively high Arrow Tower and drew his bow.
His hand speed was incredibly fast–the Arrows whistled through the air, instantly killing one after another alien player trying to scale the Water Fortress with Hook Locks.
The ones attacking Starfire from the water were from three or four guilds, specifically those of the Lizardmen, Frogmen, Murlocs, and Naga.
These creatures were Intelligent Species from various aquatic planets, and they too had built splendid civilizations. Though not comparable to Earthlings, they were still dominants on their planets.
All were connected by Earthlings exploring these administrative stars. Although Earthlings were technologically advanced, the opposition was a Magic civilization, so both were trying to make contact and probe, and the game “Old Gods” served as an excellent bridge, these aquatic Races being quite special.
They were not purely marine creatures but were amphibious.
Whether on land or in water, they possessed extremely formidable combat capabilities. Li Yao took them very seriously as their fighting power on land was comparable to other Races and naturally superior in water.
Fortunately, he had already considered these Alien races, which was why he had built this smooth wooden wall.
The outer surface was very smooth, and even creatures with suction cups couldn’t climb up the wall, and even using claw hooks was extremely challenging.
This left the alien players cursing endlessly. Fortunately, they had other tactics; otherwise, they would have given up long ago, as vain attacks only increased their casualties.
Boom…
A giant wave shaped like Ice Strike burst out of the water and hit the wall, causing the entire wall to shake and tremble.
As the giant ice wave shattered, Li Yao saw some fine cracks appear on the wall.
“Where is the Ballista? Shoot down their tide-summoning Priests,” commanded the Guardian Angel, responsible for this area of the wall. He loudly ordered the Starfire members operating the Ballista to hunt down the Priests continually casting Combination Magic.
“Guardian boss, no good, they’re all in the water, and they keep swimming and casting. The refraction off the water means we can’t aim accurately,” a lifestyle player said with a wry smile.
Hearing this, Li Yao immediately jumped next to a Ballista and said loudly, “You all handle loading the Crossbow Arrows; I’ll take care of aiming and shooting.”
“Yes, President,” the lifestyle players immediately perked up.
Similarly unreachable were countless spectators, who were also curious whether Li Yao could hit the target. After all, this was a completely different matter from battle.
Li Yao’s eyes instantly turned a pure sky blue as he looked toward the rapidly chanting spellcasting group underwater. A continuous stream of data flashed at the corner of his eyes.
Li Yao only looked at the data useful to him, continuously adjusting the ballista. After three seconds, he suddenly pulled the trigger.
“Keep loading the crossbow arrows,” Li Yao said without turning his head as he ran straight to the second ballista.
He didn’t look, but the other players and live-streaming audience were all watching the screaming steel arrows.
Thud, thud, thud, thud…
The steel arrows shot diagonally downward before abruptly plunging into the water surface.
In fact, the steel arrows were continuously darting through the air, but the group of priests didn’t care because the aim was so poor. They were scared at first, but now they had lost that emotion.
However, the steel arrows they had underestimated were too rapid for them to dodge, and one directly penetrated the skull of the first Naga, abruptly halting their spell.
Then, the steel arrows pierced through the neck of the second Naga, followed by the chest of the third Naga, until finally piercing the abdomen of the fourth Naga and shooting deep into the river.
They were originally linked as one in their joint spellcasting, using the same combination magic artifact to bond their spirits.
As the spell was disrupted, though the other spellcasters weren’t hit by the steel arrows, the disruption of the chant, under intense backlash, made all the Naga priests scream in agony. Though not killed, each of them writhed painfully in the water, their health reduced by a significant margin, rendering them completely incapable of casting spells for a short period.
This was the advantage and disadvantage of using a combination magic artifact. The advantage was that through the artifact, their spirits twisted together could unleash powerful magic they couldn’t normally release.
But the downside was that if a backlash occurred, they all suffered it together. Without the artifact, although they could also use combination techniques, coordinating too many people was difficult, and the magic released was unstable and far less powerful.
They needed powerful magic to attack the walls, as ordinary combinations just wouldn’t break through, that’s why they employed the magic artifact.
Li Yao quickly reached the second ballista, quickly adjusted his aim, and this time took even less time, less than two seconds before he fired.
Thud, thud, thud, thud…
The result was the same; several priests were killed, and the others were hit by backlash.
Li Yao kept moving, as the players loaded the crossbow arrows, and he swiftly aimed and fired.
As Li Yao got the hang of it, he began with three-second aim, but later, he was able to fire in just over a second.
Suddenly, bodies continuously surfaced, all of them priests.
The Starfire players’ eyes glowed as they watched Li Yao, while those from rival guilds were fuming, and the audience felt a chill, it was too gruesome, the water was even stained red.
Priests were already scarce. Up until now, the priests had hardly suffered any casualties in the battle, but in just a short time, a large number of priests had died, and many more were temporarily incapacitated.
They had hoped to use the priests’ combination magic to break through the walls, and they saw hope that repeated strikes would quickly shatter the wooden walls, and then, without the walls, they could breach Starfire’s line first.
However, now, everything was an unrealistic fantasy, of course, unless they killed Li Yao. But was that possible, and how would they kill him…
