Chapter 995: Chapter 565: 1000 years… 100 million? Chapter 995: Chapter 565: 1000 years… 100 million? Silver coin never understood why the Guild of the Dead, with such a large and unique monopoly platform, was so poor, their money even less than some families who owned mines, like “buy the best only” Xitiluya.
Every year, they barely made a few million Soul Crystals, just a little more consumption by the Relay Spirits could bankrupt them, which was simply unbelievable.
“Ultimately, it’s probably because the Undead are not good at making money. The initial Guild of the Dead was managed by the Undead, and the rules they set made it inconvenient for later generations to change, so they continued,” Anthony analyzed.
The main task of the Guild of the Dead was to gather those Undead born in human society to prevent them from being harmed by humans.
Among these wild Undead, a significant proportion had intelligence, roughly around 0.1 to 0.2 percent.
As long as they completed the task set by His Majesty, there were no other performance indicators for the Guild of the Dead, they had a lot of freedom, which was His Majesty’s style.
Yet even so, they still ended up like this, which was very distressing for Silver coin.
“There was no need for aggressive selling or bullying the market, just fair competition was already hugely unfair. We just need to buy up all the fertilizers on the market, or a significant portion of them, to control the entire plane’s food production, easily manipulate food prices to fluctuate in the short term, and buy low and sell high, to make a lot of money,” Silver coin said frustratingly.
Silver coin frustratingly said, “I really don’t understand why they are so poor, and they still want to engage in food production competition? If it had been done last year, there was no need to vie for the farmers and landlords, just monopolizing the fertilizer supply would have sufficed.”
Last planting season, the Sorcerer Alliance and the Council of the Undead were vying for the next season’s food productivity, even resorting to some drastic measures.
It was Silver coin and Anthony who issued a proposition at the House of the Deceased, exposing the dangers of this rivalry and calling everyone not to pre-sell their crops, but to wait for the harvest and then compete fairly.
This initiative was supported by a large number of farmers and landlords who also sensed the danger and feared becoming the victims of the struggle between the two powers, which was exactly what they needed.
Now, with the harvest season approaching, both sides were about to be embroiled in a fierce battle, but with the previous initiative, anyone using malicious tactics would immediately become a public enemy across the plane.
However, in the competition for food, both sides actually overlooked a very important point–fertilizer.
It was probably because the transportation of manufactured fertilizers was too difficult and the technical requirements for use were too high, scattered and unindustrialized.
Farmers’ fertilizers being self-produced and self-marketed meant most people were not accustomed to buying them from outside, the differences in crop yield were not significant, and the effects of fertilization were not apparent.
Whether in the Master Plane or here, the average yield of food per acre was about the same, roughly between 200 and 300 pounds.
In the Master Plane, because of the Crop Exhibition, everyone knew about crops that could yield a thousand pounds per acre, so there was a star effect, and everyone was eager to increase food production, which led to higher acceptance of fertilizers.
When a portion of the population accepted fertilizers, the rest had to accept them too, otherwise, they would be overwhelmed by others’ cheaper food.
When food from a certain region became more expensive to grow than to buy from outside, it was hard for food cultivation in that region to develop.
In the Star Burst Plane, there was no Crop Exhibition, people had no concept of producing a thousand pounds per acre, they cultivated as they always had, and buying fertilizers from outside was not considered.
Without successful examples or strong promotion, farmers and landlords would not change their crops readily, regardless of the higher yields, because the risks were too great. Failing in business might cost some money, but failing in food production could cost lives.
What Silver coin needed to do now was to monopolize the production and sales of fertilizers, promote high-yield crops, and indirectly control the food production of the entire plane.
However, these things would come gradually. Earning money by helping others advertise was a much faster way of earning money; and indeed, soon someone approached him.
“Hello, may I speak to President Lioado? I am Snowy Howl Enkixi. I am very interested in that bounty information that’s always at the top of the list at the House of the Deceased. What procedure is required for my bounty information to achieve the same effect?”
Silver coin was invigorated. Oh, an old acquaintance?
…
Ange had already finished his tasks, so now it all depended on how Silver Coin would perform. Thus, lately Ange had been quite idle, idly planting in space while his mind connected to the Relay Spirit.
A few days later, Ange suddenly asked Silver Coin, “You, when you connect, does it tire you out?”
“Tired? A little bit, it’s a bit mentally taxing, but a night’s rest fixes it,” Silver Coin replied.
Ange then asked Durken the same question. Durken quickly shook his head, “It shouldn’t. The Soul Network I designed doesn’t have such a feature, and the network in the Land of Fallen also doesn’t seem to have this feature.”
Negris said doubtfully from the side, “Are you suspecting that this network is absorbing the soul energy of those who connect? That’s impossible; it’s been operational for thousands of years. If that were the case, why hasn’t anyone discovered it?”
Ange said, “Little.”
“Are you saying the amount absorbed is so little that no one has noticed?” Negris asked.
Ange nodded.
Everyone looked at each other. If it was as Silver Coin said, feeling just like a bit of mental exhaustion that a night’s rest could alleviate, it really would be hard to notice. Ange himself hadn’t noticed until these recent idle days, after playing for several days he finally noticed the issue.
Based on the amount Ange mentioned, Durken did some calculations, and said, “Such a small amount wouldn’t affect the connected individuals and is not enough to sustain the operation of the Soul Network. It’s only about three hundred Soul Crystals a day.”
He paused, then continued, “It’s not that the network couldn’t be sustained; if the Relay Spirits just idled there doing nothing, the eighteen Relay Spirits should be able to consume these Soul Crystals. Could it be that Your Majesty designed this function just to maintain the bare minimum of consumption?”
Now, the Relay Spirits consume six to seven hundred Soul Crystals each day. With the bunch of Spirits of Sinful Thoughts that Ange threw in, consumption suddenly surged to two thousand a day, totaling about forty thousand overall–nowhere near offset by those absorbed three hundred crystals.
“Why absorb it then? If it’s absorbed, where does this soul energy go? Is it consumed during the operation, or is it transferred somewhere else?”
“It’s transferred,” Ange replied.
“How do you know?” Negris asked puzzled.
Ange tapped the Relay Spirit, and its form inflated briefly before it began continuously spewing out Soul Crystals.
Everyone was startled, Negris asked in shock, “You can retrieve the energy absorbed by the Soul Network? Did you use the Highest Power Mark?”
Durken was also shocked, “My God, if all this energy had been transferred and stored, then over the years, three hundred a day, a hundred thousand a year, a hundred million in a thousand years….”
