Chapter 1154: Chapter 718: I Know Who He Learned From Chapter 1154: Chapter 718: I Know Who He Learned From Carson stared incredulously at the rapidly healing ghastly wound on his companion’s body, and then with disbelief at the horse that had performed this miracle, holy, solemn, majestic, and mighty. What a beautiful horse!
His companion’s wound had occurred during their journey when dodging an Ancient God, causing severe bleeding that nearly resulted in death, if not for some moss they found on the way, which they crushed and applied to stop the bleeding.
Originally, after meeting the Great Elf, they had wanted to ask if there were any hemostatics that could treat the wound before returning, but unexpectedly, this horse performed a miracle and healed the ghastly wound right before their eyes. How miraculous was that?
Truthfully, Carson had never really believed in any Divine Tree or Great Elf; how could one speak of faith when struggling even to find food?
However, over the past year, some positive changes had occurred. The Ancient God that used to loiter around their habitat had disappeared, rumored to be the doing of the Purgatory Twins.
With the Ancient God gone, they had more time to tend to their crops, pruning and fertilizing, and had achieved a bountiful harvest.
After setting aside enough food and seeds for everyone, there was still some left over. This was rare; they were usually short on food, and at this time each year, the tribe suffered as they had to abandon some of their people due to the scarcity.
Usually, at this time, the elder elves would (voluntarily) leave their habitat to fend for themselves, but this year, not only did they not need to drive away the elder elves, but there was also surplus food left over.
This left them somewhat at a loss; after setting aside enough food, what to do with the rest? Store it? But they currently had no place to store food.
Later, someone suggested: Why not go back and make offerings to the Great Elf. The idea received unanimous support as they had not heard from the forbidden land for a long time and wanted to check it out, and also wanted to show their faces before the Great Elf who had driven them away years ago.
So, they left enough food for the newborns next year and carried the rest back, only to find, to their surprise, that instead of showing their faces, the Great Elf sent a horse out to perform a miracle for them. What else could such a visibly fast healing be if not a miracle?
This was the first time Carson felt that the gods were so close to him; were all those legendary miracles real?
“Alright, get up, the Divine Tree has felt your intentions,” Lightning said with a slightly aloof tone.
It must be said that Lightning was quite suited for playing tricks; his detached tone was just right; if it were too friendly, it wouldn’t fit the status of a messenger of the Divine Tree.
The Church also had approachable priests and authoritative priests, who carried out the will of the gods, needed to keep some distance to be revered.
Three Void Elves hesitantly stood up.
Lightning knew well that if he didn’t lead them, they wouldn’t be able to articulate anything, so he asked, “Open your bags, let the Great Elf see what you brought to offer him.”
“Oh,” Carson and the others hurriedly opened their bags, revealing bunches of ‘silk’ inside?
Lightning looked puzzled at these silk-like bunches and asked, “Is this your staple food? Is this what you usually eat?”
After speaking, he tentatively stuck out his tongue, scooped up a small amount into his mouth to chew, then made a constipated face. If it weren’t for Carson and the others standing in front of him, he would have spit it out.
Kvada, such indigestible stuff was the main food of elves? Even horses wouldn’t eat it.
“Yes, this is our food,” Carson explained. “Tender hemp, it’s the young vine of the parasitic hemp vine picked on its fifth day of sprouting. The skin and core are removed, the middle part is air-dried, and then it’s edible. When eating, bake it first, chew on it, and suck out the powdery substance inside. If you can’t chew it anymore, you can spit it out.”
Anthony, feeling a chill down his spine, walked over and gestured for Carson to open his mouth.
Carson looked at Lightning, puzzled.
“Open your mouth, this is Lord Anthony, an emissary from the Kingdom of Gods,” Lightning spoke.
Although Carson didn’t know what the Kingdom of Gods was, he obediently opened his mouth, and indeed, his teeth were severely worn down and the gaps between them were unusually large; his jawbone was also broader.
This made Carson’s face less pointed than that of a typical elf; if it were any wider, it would have turned into a square face, which would probably make Lightning roll around laughing.
It was clearly due to eating tender hemp over time, the prolonged chewing of which caused severe dental wear and a broader jaw, just to extract a small amount of starch from it, which was such a waste of effort.
And to think that they took this kind of food as their staple and even laboriously carried it over to offer to the Great Elf?
Anthony couldn’t help but sigh again, too kind-hearted to stand seeing devout people disappointed, and he turned to Ange saying,
“My Lord, the quality of this tender hemp is very good; it’s an excellent plant fiber. If not used for eating but for weaving or making ropes, it could be a great replacement for the fibers we currently use. The clothes they are wearing seem to have been made by twisting the skin and core; the fiber quality is quite good. Perhaps, my Lord, you might shelter them.”
Ange tilted his head, looking at Anthony with a puzzled expression before nodding.
Negris figured out the meaning behind Ange’s gestures, slapping his thigh in realization–that ‘not letting devout followers be disappointed’ habit was learned from Ange!
Ange’s head tilt was perplexed about why he had said to not bother just a moment ago, and now was granting protection; the nod must mean he saw Anthony’s genuine desire to provide shelter and didn’t mind, considering it wouldn’t affect his gardening at all.
Back when the decision was made about whether to open a world transit station, Ange once said, “It’s important to you, I agree,” showing that Ange truly couldn’t let devout followers be disappointed.
Not just with Anthony, Ange was tolerant with all followers, and everyone felt very comfortable under his protection.
Since they decided they would provide protection for this tribe of elves, they needed to understand some specifics about them like their population, living environment, farming methods, and so on. They first went to visit their tribe. Anrus and Aesclis were also coming along, “The Great Elf represents the Divine Tree and has come to visit you.”
“Ah? We’re going too? But what about the forbidden grounds?” Anrus seemed confused.
“What forbidden grounds? Didn’t you listen to what we just talked about? This place isn’t a forbidden ground at all; Chris deceived you. Trent is out now; there are no tree monsters left. What are you still guarding this place for? It’s a barren land; it can’t even sustain a hundred or two hundred elves. Let’s leave quickly,” Negris retorted.
“Oh, oh, oh.” All elves packed up, and under the pretense of escorting the Great Elf to visit the home-bound elves, they left the forbidden ground.
The Ziya Tribe wasn’t very far from here; they just needed to float through the Void for a few dozen kilometers, land on a giant dead tree branch, follow the branch forward, take a right at the second fork, and come to a spot where it intertwined with another vine–that was it.
Because it intertwined with another vine, it would make a creaking sound during thermal expansion and contraction, which is why their tribe was named the Ziya Tribe.
But before they even returned to the tribe, they saw a fireball streaking across the sky above the tribe from afar.
Carson’s face turned pale: “Oh no, it’s the Devil’s attendant, the Devil’s servants have broken into the tribe, my children!”
With a shout, Carson panicked and ran toward the tribe.
PS: Stomachache, ate too much random stuff over the New Year.
