Chapter 1115: Chapter 679: Guess Who I Am? Chapter 1115: Chapter 679: Guess Who I Am? The Void Sapling grew rapidly, living up to the name of the Void Tree. It possessed the traits of both the World Tree and the Void Tree, growing whenever there were things sprouting around it, just like the World Tree would.
If there were no crops growing nearby, then it would absorb that invisible energy from the Void and still continue to grow.
The feathers that Ange had planted were only effective when it was a young sapling; as it grew larger, they were no longer needed because the Void Tree itself sprouted large, downy, curled leaves that caught those unseen substances.
“It really has to be the Void Tree. If you’d cultivated it sooner, we wouldn’t have had to think of so many solutions, and all that effort wouldn’t have been wasted,” Negris said.
The God of Life spoke leisurely, “Without symbiosis, I couldn’t have cultivated it.”
“Ah? Is it because you entered into symbiosis with Ange that you were able to cultivate it? What’s different about you now compared to before you were in symbiosis?” Negris asked.
The God of Life rarely paused to think, then explained, “According to the normal cycle of longevity, I should scatter the seeds across all planes, cultivating a World Tree on each one. Then the roots of these trees would interweave together, forming a whole.”
“Because of Life Force, many creatures would live attached to me, and I would provide them with a suitable environment. Eventually, we would form a mutual symbiotic relationship. Those creatures would explore afar, scattering my seeds to distant places. Once a certain level is reached, I would then evolve into the Void Tree.”
By this point, Negris had an expression of understanding:
“I get it now. The elves you raised disrupted this cycle when they restricted the flow of your seeds, preventing them from being scattered to other planes. And because of the Church of Light, the main Plane was confined to the Elf Forest, so it couldn’t grow properly.”
“In the end, it was because Ange scattered your seeds that you decided you couldn’t wait any longer and entered into symbiosis with him, leveraging his Planting God Status to evolve. Because of the Planting God Status, all the crops he planted could also be considered extensions of you and the Little Tree, is that right?”
The Tree of Life spoke at a leisurely pace, “That’s right…”
This leisurely manner was actually quite irritating, and Negris said irritably, “Didn’t you always say this was a natural part of things? Why the impatience then? Ange is scattering the seeds for you anyway; why still enter into symbiosis with him? It’s not like your usual character.”
The Tree of Life continued slowly, “There’s no time left, I’m about to die…”
“About to die again? How soon?” Negris asked irritably. From the old tree’s tone, it was impossible to discern how ‘soon’ its end was coming; it could be anywhere from ‘nine thousand years to tomorrow.’
“Nine thousand years, there’s no time to evolve,” the Tree of Life said.
For a life form, nine thousand years is a vast stretch of time; the recorded history of the Master Plane itself only spans about ten thousand years, and beyond that are mostly myths, legends, and holy texts, or perhaps the memories of a tree…
But for a World Tree that needs to spread through all planes and form good symbiotic relationships with all species before it can evolve, nine thousand years could indeed be too short.
On the other hand, after entering into symbiosis with Ange and with the help of the Planting God Status, all the seeds and crops he sowed became extensions of the Life God, so it leveled up in just a year.
“You leveled up? Became a Void Tree? Because you became a Void Tree, you were then able to cultivate your parent plant? If you’ve leveled up already, why still cultivate your parent plant? Why not just grow on your own?” Negris inquired, puzzled.
“I’m learning how to grow, give me ten or twenty thousand years and I might just get the hang of it. Plant one for me to study,” the God of Life said leisurely.
“Pfft–” I can’t chat with these long-lived types anymore. They talk as if ten or twenty thousand years are nothing. But then he quickly came to his senses, “Eh, have you broken through the lifespan limit now? Can you live past a hundred thousand years? You don’t have just nine thousand years left, do you?”
“Maybe, I shouldn’t die so quickly, I feel much sturdier in the waist and legs,” the God of Life spoke at his leisure. As he spoke, he suddenly looked up, somewhat perplexedly, towards the void.
Ange felt something too and looked up in the direction the God of Life was gazing.
“What are you all looking at?” Negris also looked in the same direction for a good while but saw nothing, and couldn’t help asking.
“Little Tree, leaving, quickly,” Ange explained.
Not understanding, Negris turned towards the God of Life.
“One World Tree sapling is moving away from the plane, entering a void it has never touched before, and it’s moving fast,” the God of Life explained and then projected his thoughts in that direction.
Ange stood straight, and seeing this, Negris quickly latched his consciousness onto Ange’s soul and projected along. Soon, they arrived at the sapling of a World Tree.
“La la la la, la la la la…” A World Tree sapling was planted right in the center of a farm. Beside it was a pitch-black stele, and a woman was humming a tune while tending to the vegetables, with about a dozen skeletons cultivating the barren land around them.
The farm was obviously new; many plots had not been cultivated. With just this woman and a dozen skeletons, completing the cultivation of the farm was a monumental task.
“Farm Boundary Monument? Hey, it’s an old acquaintance–what was her name–the captain from the Light Sea Plane. Ange, you learned hydroponics without soil from her, right?” Negris exclaimed in surprise on seeing the woman.
Then immediately, Negris realized something was off about the farm’s location–it was actually inside an airship. The limited interior of the airship had somehow been expanded to accommodate a three-thousand-acre space.
“Eh? What a clever idea. If you can erect a Farm Boundary Monument inside an airship, the space will be much larger, but can the airship even support a Farm Boundary Monument? This isn’t a regular airship, is it?” Negris marveled.
Ordinary airship decks were thin and lightweight; they couldn’t support a spatial structure like a Farm Boundary Monument. However, before Negris could figure out more, Ange suddenly lifted his hand, and correspondingly, the central World Tree sapling also lifted a True Leaf.
At the edge of the farm, a spatial rift opened, but it snagged… snagged…
Negris was taken aback and looked at Ange, who also recognized that spatial rift. He quickly let go, and then the spatial rift opened properly, revealing Hiludi’s astonished face on the other side.
She seemed incredulous, first at the rift that snagged before fully opening, then took a look all around the edge before quickly hopping across to inspect from this side again, her expression grave. What was this situation? It had never occurred before.
No wonder she was cautious. Space Gates were dangerous things–if you carelessly stuck your head through just as the gate was closing, your body would stay on one side and you’d be decapitated.
“Could it be because the distance is too far and the space is unstable?” Hiludi muttered to herself.
Just then, a voice sounded in her ear: “Don’t be nervous, guess who I am?”
