Chapter 1045: Chapter 612: I’m so anxious I could come back to life Chapter 1045: Chapter 612: I’m so anxious I could come back to life “Of course, I’ve heard of it. Isn’t Negris the God of Knowledge in the divine tales?” Negris replied.
“Oh, that’s how it is. It looks like a case of the same name. Forget this matter, where’s the Mourning Skeleton?” the Lord of Annihilation said, shifting the subject with a smile.
Negris felt something was off, but he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was, so he hurriedly called over Anthony and the others.
The trade was set to commence naturally, with both parties having agreed on the procedure beforehand. Members of the Doralite Clan had already ascended to the Starburst Array to familiarize themselves with its operation and to practice taking control of the Array.
Of course, the most crucial task was to check for any hidden ‘back doors’ in the Array, such as a Teleportation Array or explosive devices tucked away in improbable corners. It was difficult to inspect such intricacies within such a massive structure thoroughly, and even meticulous examination couldn’t guarantee disassembling the Array without oversight.
However, the God of Life made this scrutiny foolproof by dispersing its pollen across the entire Starburst Array beforehand; it would detect any abnormal magic or divine power reactions.
The God of Life indeed found many unusual reactions and had notified Durken in advance. Durken, projecting onto an alchemical construct, checked these areas and identified some ‘back doors,’ marking them for clean sweep during the acquisition.
With the God of Life and an alchemical magician working together, Negris dared to agree to the trade; otherwise, he would rather have the Starburst Array hanging over him daily than exchange it.
For everyone involved, whether or not the Starburst Array could be utilized was less critical – what mattered more was preventing the enemy from using it. The least acceptable scenario for them was the complete deactivation of the Array.
Of course, Ange wouldn’t accept that. He still wanted to use the Starburst Array for farming, but could a broken Starburst Array not be used for farming as well?
“Alright, the trade begins. The Body of Mourning is here; you may send someone to inspect it,” Anthony directed the entire exchange process, first having Feiti guard the Body of Mourning, allowing members of the Sorcerer Alliance to come and inspect it.
Radiad came forward to inspect it, confirmed it was the Body of Mourning and not just painted, and then marked it before turning back to nod at the Lord of Annihilation.
Anthony said, “Confirm that it is what you need, and please have your people vacate the Starburst Array.”
The Lord of Annihilation nodded with a smile as a ripple burst from the stele and spread out.
It wasn’t long before the rings on the outer perimeter of the Starburst Array began to disperse.
The Starburst Array was composed of rings mounted on a main axle, the direction of which determined where the starburst would be aimed.
Now, those outermost rings on this central axle had scattered into multiple airships, ladders, and sectors.
Most were massive sealed sectors, powerless and being towed away from the Starburst Array by ladders and airships, one by one.
It was clearly visible from the ground that the Starburst Array had greatly reduced in size.
“Kvada!” Durken cursed as he looked up at the sky.
“What’s wrong?” Anthony turned and asked, “Is there something amiss?”
“The power for the Starburst Array was provided by those airships and ladders. Now that they’ve withdrawn, the Starburst Array can no longer be directed,” Durken explained.
“Oh,” Anthony responded, then fell silent.
Radiad gave them a puzzled look, just this?
They had tricked them significantly, yet they seemed not to be angry?
There was nothing to be angry about; everyone had already guessed that the opposition wouldn’t hand over a fully functional Starburst Array and even suspected that the Sorcerer Alliance itself might no longer be able to launch the starburst.
Moreover, Durken had already analyzed that the power for the Array was likely provided by the airships and ladders, only he hadn’t expected them to also take away those powerless sectors.
If the opposition hadn’t tricked them, everyone would actually be uneasy, worrying about the reliability of such a cheap deal.
The entire evacuation operation had been prepared well in advance; just driving the airships and ladders and towing them away sufficed, and they were quickly cleared out.
“Our side begins the takeover procedure, the first step, verify various Prohibition permissions.”
“Second step, clear all abnormal areas.”
“The third step, set up defenses and self-destruct Prohibition.”
Once the defenses and self-destruct Prohibition were in place, even if the Sorcerer Alliance wanted to back out, Ange could blow up the core of the Starburst Array.
This was a relatively slow process, but all the equipment had been prepared in advance, and the people from the Doralite Clan successfully installed it under Durken’s remote guidance.
However, before installing the Prohibition, Ange had to hand over the skeleton except for the skull.
Feiti twisted the head of the Mourning Skeleton, directly twisting off the skull and handing over the rest to Radiad.
The crude action startled Radiad, who exclaimed urgently, “Hey, be gentle, what if you break it?”
Feiti dismissively said, “If it breaks, it’s a fake. A true Mourning Skeleton can’t be broken.”
Radiad rolled his eyes desperately, even if it couldn’t break it was not okay; they already owned the skeleton, and even a scratch would be painful.
Silver coin’s eyes lit up, “True Mourning, can’t be broken–it’s a great slogan for advertising; next time we sell Mourning Skeletons, we’ll use that.”
Now it was Anthony and others who rolled their eyes; this cunning Goblin really dared to think big, and besides, were Mourning Skeletons available on every street?
Once the Sorcerer Alliance received the body’s skeleton, they placed it on the Stele. At this moment, the shadow of the Lord of Annihilation had disappeared, leaving only a continuous flow of black gas emanating from the Stele, entwining around the skeleton.
Negris whispered, “He’s merging with the body, such a skilled method. Could the Lord of Annihilation also be one of the Undead?”
One of the twelve seats of the Void Ghost, Hayden, could be Undead, so it wouldn’t be strange if the Lord of Annihilation was Undead too.
Yet, for the Sorcerer Alliance and the Undead Empire, two opposing forces that had been enemies for thousands of years, to both be led by Undead felt somewhat odd–wasn’t this basically an Undead civil war?
The degree of compatibility between body and soul was a factor influencing the flexibility of the skeleton; the higher the compatibility, the more flexible the movement.
Ange could only lift the arms of his Black Crystal Body, due to too low a compatibility, which, in turn, was caused by insufficient Soul Strength.
Even with sufficient Soul Strength, smoothly operating the body required practice; otherwise, it would feel uncomfortable. Whenever Ange changed bones, he always felt uneasy for a couple of days.
While the Lord of Annihilation was getting accustomed to the body here, the Doralite Clan was setting up the Starburst Array on top; both sides didn’t pull any tricks. Two days later, the handover process was complete, Feiti handed over the final skull to Radiad.
Radiad immediately connected the skull to the skeleton, and quickly, all the black gas from the Stele wildly surged into the skull, and many purple Soul Flames also crazily burrowed into it.
On Ange’s side, everyone was invigorated. Negris shouted through the Soul Network, “Mourning Soul, there’s a Mourning Soul in the Stele! Kvada, could the soul he used for projection be the Mourning Soul?”
Inside Negris’s Fatty Dragon body was a Soul Heart, originally a Soul Fire, but Ange had fed it into a Soul Heart; with a vigorous soul in the body, Negris could do more, at least his vision was far better than when it was just Soul Fire.
In regular fights, he could utilize the strength of the Soul Heart… at least, its resilience was of the Soul Heart level.
No one would use the Mourning Soul merely for projection, right? Isn’t that too wasteful?
The soul in the Stele quickly transferred to the Body of Mourning; the skeleton sat up, turning itself around, eyes hollow flaming with purple fire–indeed, it was the Mourning Soul.
That meant, after the soul transferred to the Body of Mourning, both the soul and the body of this Lord of Annihilation were now of the Lord of Mourning level.
The Lord of Annihilation twisted his neck and stretched his legs, his joints crackling noisily as they settled in place. After adapting, a Soul Flame suddenly burst forth from his body, rapidly armoring his form.
Then, a deep voice resounded, “Congratulations on receiving the Starburst Array, the duty to maintain the balance of the Void henceforth falls to the Church of Light.”
“???” This abrupt statement left everyone stunned–the balance of the Void?
Only Feiti widened his eyes–scratched that–his eye sockets–scratched that again–his soul popped out, pointing at his Soul Armor, and exclaimed in shock, “Locke?”
The Lord of Annihilation turned his head, disdainfully said, “To think when I see you again, you’ve become a servant of Light.”
“What? Servant of Light? No… I… this… well, ah, how should I put it, I’m so agitated I might come back to life.”
