“Golden Skeletons? No, the soul of a Golden Skeleton couldn’t be this powerful.” Everyone noticed the issue, and Gust waved his hand, casting a Magic–Spiritual Barrier–to protect his Undead and himself from soul attacks.
He also declared loudly, “I am Gust from the Council of the Undead, this is the Monarch’s Land of Slumber, who are you?”
Already being High-Order Undead, the Golden Skeletons possessed intelligence, though sometimes clumsy, they were fully capable of communication.
If these Golden Skeletons were also subjects of the Monarch, hearing Gust declare his identity, the normal reaction would be to stop and communicate. However, these Golden Skeletons didn’t, they continued their relentless charge unchanged.
An Undead summoned two Wraith Wanderers that quickly crawled and charged toward the Golden Skeletons.
Wraith Wanderers didn’t have much killing power, but they could entangle, hug, and screech at their target, slowing them down, causing sluggish movements, or even dizziness– a particularly nasty spell and a staple move for Necromancers when starting a fight.
However, one of the Golden Skeletons glared at a Wraith Wanderer, the flames in its eye sockets flared up, and the Wraith Wanderer just burst apart.
Everyone saw that the flames swelling in the eye sockets of the Golden Skeletons were purple-blue in color.
“Mourning Souls!!! These Golden Skeletons are about to condense Mourning Souls, everyone be careful,” someone shouted out loud.
Someone else also shouted loudly, “Hurry and retreat, they might be guards left by His Majesty, let’s clarify the situation before taking any offensive action.”
“Makes sense, quickly retreat, run!” A bunch of High-Order Undead scrambled back into the passage they had come through.
“Where’s Kent? And the others from the Undead Temple?” Suddenly someone realized that a group was missing from those who had retreated.
Impatient, Gust stomped his foot, “How can Kent be so slow? Always the last when it comes to eating, and no urgency in retreat, he deserves to guard a graveyard all his life. I’ll go check.”
Worrying out loud, the Undead Temple might sound majestic, but to these eternally Undead souls, wasn’t it just like guarding a graveyard?
Fortunately, Gust was not the sort of leader to shirk responsibility. Noticing that Kent hadn’t run out, he quickly led people back in the hope of rescuing them.
In his eyes, Kent was already weak; how much better could the rest of the Undead Temple be? Against two Golden Skeletons about to step into Mourning level, it might only take a few seconds to tear apart Kent and his group.
But when he turned back, he saw a strange sight; the two Golden Skeletons were gone, leaving only Kent and his company surrounding an area of marsh bubbling with ‘gurgle gurgle’ sounds.
A marsh? There was only rock and soil here; where did a marsh come from?
Only upon getting closer did Gust sense the rich fluctuations of Earth Elements. These fluctuations were faint but intense, as if, in a short period, someone had cast hundreds of low-level Earth Magic spells.
“What’s going on? Where are the Golden Skeletons?” Gust asked in surprise.
Kent pointed at the marsh before him, his expression just as confused; he was beginning to doubt whether he had seen an illusion just now.
Gust looked toward the marsh and happened to see a golden skull struggling to emerge, but something seemed to catch it halfway out and pulled it back down, causing it to sink again.
Ange nonchalantly cast a Marsh Spell to maintain the marsh’s existence.
Gust understood a little– an Earth Element Mage under Kent’s command had cast a Marsh Spell, trapping the Golden Skeletons.
It can’t be? Were these two skeletons this stupid?
Far from stupid, Golden Skeletons not only possessed powerful combat instincts but also had many special abilities, such as Death Scythes and King’s Arrival.
For instance, they had keen elemental perception, able to detect elemental fluctuations and certainly not foolish enough to jump into places with intense elemental activity– the Marsh Spell would hardly trap them.
Unless the Marsh Spell was instantly formed, and they had no time to evade.
“`
But even so, it was impossible to trap these two, for they were Golden Skeletons that had half-stepped into Mourning Level status. With death’s breath gathering at their feet, a forceful stomp allowed them to fly briefly. How could they possibly be trapped in the swamp?
Unless something was pulling them down from below.
It has to be said, Gust was indeed experienced, guessing everything correctly, only he was unwilling to believe it.
After the Golden Skeletons struggled in the swamp for a while, several white bone chains wrapped around them, slowly lifting them to the surface of the marsh.
The way the white bone chains entwined was very tricky, only skeletons would know the weaknesses of their own kind best. The chains were wrapped around the joints of the elbows and knees of the Golden Skeletons, ensuring that no matter how they bent their limbs, they couldn’t touch them.
At the same time, they lifted them up, leaving them suspended in the air with no support, no matter how they struggled, the white bone chains moved with them, always maintaining a state where they lay face up to the sky with their back and waist unsupported.
No matter how strong they were, the Golden Skeletons couldn’t utilize their strength. They tried to bend down and grab the white bone chains on their knees, but were fiercely pulled back into the swamp, filled with mud up to their bone cavities, before being lifted up again.
In this way, the two Golden Skeletons were always in an uncontrollable state.
Gust couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration, “These bone chains are used so well, as flexible as hands and feet. If I didn’t know better, I’d think the skeletons themselves were casting spells.”
Anthony and the others exchanged quiet smiles.
As is well known, skeletons don’t have spellcasters. Necromancers have the Witch species, and spiritual bodies have the Undead species, but skeletons alone don’t have any. Yet these white bone chains were as dexterous as the hands of a skeleton, which was truly marvelous.
If it were Gust using them, the bone chains would at best bundle the enemy into a mass, if one wasn’t tight enough, he would just use more.
But no matter how many bone chains, it would be impossible to bind a Golden Skeleton of Mourning Level, as white bones aren’t as hard as gold. However, Ange’s method could work, it just required especially delicate control.
Gust sighed, recognizing that Kent had capable people under him, as the white bone chains were used very effectively, but what he was more curious about now were these two Golden Skeletons. Did they truly show signs of breaking through to the Mourning Soul level?
That would be no small matter.
“Hello there, can you hear me speaking? I am Gust, the Chairman of the Council of the Undead. Do you recognize me?” Gust called out to the two Golden Skeletons.
The Golden Skeletons continued to struggle fiercely, paying no attention to Gust.
“Hello, hello to you. I am Gust. Are you guards of His Majesty?”
“Hey? Hello, hello! Give some response, will you? Can you hear me?” Gust greeted them repeatedly, but the two Golden Skeletons offered not even a hint of reaction.
“Cough, cough, Your Excellency the Chairman, this isn’t working. Maybe we should give it a try?” Anthony suggested.
“Oh, yes, yes, you go ahead.” Gust felt a bit embarrassed, having shouted like a fool for so long was one thing, but to have it witnessed by a bunch of people he wasn’t very familiar with was another.
Anthony gave the Black Horse a signal: “Go ahead.”
The Black Horse would usually challenge Anthony, but he still showed respect in front of others, stepping forward obediently. He puffed his chest out, gathering himself, then suddenly turned back and asked, “To what extent?”
Gust was startled on the spot, “An Undead?” This horse was actually an Undead? And he had thought it was an extension of a Black Knight.
Not just an Undead, but an Undead Horse, at that. It is very rare for non-sentient beings to incarnate as Undead, but Gust didn’t know this and thought it was an Undead that liked to take the form of a horse.
Anthony replied, “If it can reach the level of Lightning, then let’s say Lightning Level.”
Feiti and Durken, among others, were shocked. The level of Lightning? Did they really want that? The destructive power was too great. Did the Black Horse have that level of skill?
The Black Horse’s eyes blazed, and everyone could feel its fighting spirit igniting. Staring at the two Golden Skeletons suspended above the swamp, it shouted, “You two hollow-brained, shit-yellow boned, dog-faced creatures not even a kobold would gnaw on, %#@…Y=*#%*&@! *#&”
The two Golden Skeletons, which hadn’t reacted to any form of greeting, suddenly twisted their skulls, deadlocking their eye sockets onto the Black Horse. The Soul Fire blazed mightily, blue-purple flames nearly bursting forth as a powerful Soul Impact erupted.
