Chapter 1019: Chapter 588: The Strangest Death of the Undead Chapter 1019: Chapter 588: The Strangest Death of the Undead “`
“The breath of death is so dense beneath the pit? No wonder it never stops spewing.” Negris suddenly realized, and then in shock, “So much Liquid of Breath of Death? How long has it been stored?”
The Resting Abyss is a plane where the breath of death is especially dense; even normally buried corpses are resurrected and roam the earth, and every year those who go to pay tribute have to look everywhere for them.
But could the entire breath of death from the Resting Abyss be compressed and fill this massive pit?
No one knows, at least for now, because the depth of the pit is unknown. If it were an ordinary body of water, one could simply use their mind’s eye to gauge the depth, but the ‘water’ here is Liquid of Breath of Death, which cannot be penetrated by the mind’s eye.
Not only is the Liquid of Breath of Death impenetrable, but the erupting breath of death also obstructs vision, leading those ahead to plunge into the ‘lake’ without a clear sight.
“Glug… glub… glug… glug glug… help me…” An Undead struggled to stay afloat in the Liquid of Breath of Death, unable to climb out. His cries for help were muffled by the breath of death, noticed only by Ange and a few others nearby.
Everyone was a bit stunned. What’s going on? An Undead crying for help after falling into the water? Is there some mistake? Can’t you just float up?
“Could it be because the bubbles are too dense, so it can’t float up?” Durken speculated, “I’ve heard that when sand is infused with a lot of air, it becomes quicksand, a very basic Quicksand Technique. Could water be the same, turning into flowing water?”
“It might also be because the Liquid of Breath of Death is so dense that it blocks his senses, so he doesn’t know which direction to float in. It’s like in knight novels, where Dragon Knights in the sky can’t tell the sky from the ground and crash into the earth,” Feiti also speculated.
Negris was not pleased and roared through Ange’s Soul Network, “You’re slandering us. Dragons not knowing up from down–their riders wouldn’t hit the ground! How could that be?! You’re slandering our Giant Dragons. And we dragons wouldn’t be ridden, knight novels are written all wrong.”
“Right, right, right, I’ve never seen a half-meter long Giant Dragon being ridden, never, have you?”
“No, no, no, never seen it. Who would ride a half-meter long dragon, cut head and tail? That’s just too inhumane.”
Negris was nearly furious, and if it wasn’t confined to projecting itself through Ange, it would have pounced out and scratched someone right now.
“Uh, you’ve discussed so much, shouldn’t we rescue him?” A soft voice spoke, and everyone turned to find it was Seris.
This gave Anthony a huge start: “How did you manage to follow us?”
Seris replied firmly, “If you’re heading for the Land where the Undead God Slumbers, of course, I must go with you.”
“Eh…” Anthony scratched his head, “I meant, how did you keep up? Did you learn some Divine Technique? Aren’t you a dancer? How do you… how can you fly?”
Looking at Seris, who stood suspended in the Void as naturally as one would walk, Anthony was at a loss for words.
Indeed, Divine Arts are easy to learn, practice, and master. As long as one is physically strong and has sincere beliefs, progress can be swift. But for Seris to improve so quickly? Just a few days ago, she was paralyzed in bed, wholly dependent on others for her care. And now she could fly?
Seris excitedly explained, “It’s a gift from my Lord. I feel the Lord beside me; He is with me.”
Anthony rolled his eyes. Isn’t He beside you? He’s right in front of you.
Master God Ange is too easy-going, accustomed to equitable exchange; others give so much and receive just as much in return. Likely, this Seris had dedicated a great deal to receive so much.
While they were talking, Feiti had already pulled up the nearly drowned Undead.
“Thank you, cough cough, thank you, I almost drowned,” the grateful Undead said, sitting on the ground, still shaken.
Feiti replied irritably, “Kid, you’re already dead; you’re not going to drown again.”
“`
The Undead let out a wry smile, “I really almost drowned to death there. I was originally drowned, that’s why I’m particularly afraid of water. Whenever I touch water, I feel like I’m suffocating. If it’s just regular water, I’ll just suffocate, since I wouldn’t die anyway. But this ‘dead water’ was different, it gummed up my soul. Luckily you all rescued me, otherwise, I would have truly died.”
Everyone exchanged glances, then turned to look at Durken. Among them, he should be the one with the most experience soaking in the Liquid of Breath of Death, having been immersed in it for quite some time before.
Durken spread his hands, “Who would dunk their face into that stuff anyway?”
Feiti and Anthony exchanged a look and then plunked into the lake of Breath of Death.
Ange could feel them searching around in the water, fishing out several disoriented Witch Zombie Spirits, until finally, they all gathered together, saying with lingering fear, “We almost drowned in there, my god, is that ‘dead water’ really so dangerous?”
“Yeah, yeah, I dived too deep and the dead water muddled my senses. I couldn’t tell up from down, and the deeper I went, the closer I came to dying. Many thanks to everyone from the temple, I’m very grateful.”
“So grateful, so grateful,” Anthony and Feiti received a wave of thanks.
As Undead, who would have thought they could one day be ‘drowned’? This might be one of the most bizarre ways for an Undead to die.
Gust came over, his face troubled, “What do we do now? We don’t know how deep this dead water is, and it can shield our senses. How are we supposed to go down?”
They had thought getting to the bottom of the Eye of Eternal Silence would reveal the answers to their problems, but now, a lake of dead water had put everyone at a loss.
The situation below was unclear. If it was just a dead lake, diving in wouldn’t show much, with the risk of drowning, and any prohibitions would make things even more troublesome.
However, no sooner had he finished speaking than a stone was handed to him.
Gust was startled, looking at Ange who was offering the stone, he asked in confusion, “For me?”
Anthony and others who knew about the stone’s purpose had their eyes light up, “Right, we have Air Bubble Stones, let me demonstrate.”
Anthony took the Air Bubble Stone and drew it across the surface of the Liquid of Breath of Death in the water.
The Air Bubble Stone was actually from the Light Sea Plane. Negris had once found it strange, wondering how strong the wind had to be to form such stones. Later, he discovered it had nothing to do with wind; they formed in water, and the density of water is much greater than that of wind.
As the stone skimmed across the Liquid of Rest, a large air bubble burst forth from behind it.
Gust understood at a glance. He took the stone and drew it through the water as well, then said, “So, by maintaining a certain speed in the water, you can generate an air bubble?”
Ange nodded and handed out Air Bubble Stones to everyone, though many of the Undead didn’t accept. They didn’t want to risk diving into the deadly water. What if they drowned?
Air Bubble Stones used to be valuable, but after Ange took control of the Light Sea Plane, they were mere stones; there were as many as one could want. Durken had even implemented them in architecture to reduce wind erosion on buildings, finding them very useful.
As long as their senses weren’t shielded by the Liquid of Breath of Death, the Undead had a strong ability to survive. Those who had taken an Air Bubble Stone dived into the lake and vanished from sight.
Ange’s group each grabbed a stone and dove into the lake, swimming continuously towards the lake bed. They found the bottom was not flat but cone-shaped, narrowing the further down they went, and soon everyone entered a long, slender tunnel.
The tunnel first sloped downwards and then took a sweeping curve upwards. Eventually, everyone felt like they hit a membranous layer, and after squeezing past it, the space suddenly opened up.
There was no more Liquid of Breath of Death here, replaced by a spacious underground cavern.
Durken’s expression grew serious and he said softly, “Multidimensional layering, Resting Camp technology; the space below won’t be small.”
