Chapter 851: Chapter 851: Not At All Like a Daughter Chapter 851: Chapter 851: Not At All Like a Daughter “Miss Qin, are you from Fico City?” Su Yiru finished ordering and passed the menu along, starting a conversation with a smile.

      “Yes.”

Qin Youxuan didn’t understand what she wanted to ask and simply responded indifferently, not saying much.

“I had the privilege of visiting there once, though many years have passed without a return visit.” Su Yiru’s voice was soft yet carried an indescribable sense of desolation.

“It’s been so many years, what’s the point of thinking about it?” Ye Zhanxing, who had been silent, suddenly frowned and lowered his voice.

Seeing his displeasure, Su Yiru quickly hid her melancholy and laughed lightly, “It is in the past, maybe it’s just that I’m getting older and cannot help feeling sentimental.”

“Mrs. Ye is modest. You look very young. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would never have guessed you had a daughter that grown-up,” Qin Youxuan suddenly spoke up.

      That was the truth.

Su Yiru maintained herself very well.

Her features weren’t particularly striking, but they radiated gentleness.

From inside out, she exuded an air of nobility, yet it wasn’t oppressive; instead, it made one want to draw closer.

“What do you mean by that? Are you saying I’m not my mother’s biological daughter?”

Ye Mingmei became agitated at once.

The speaker was unintentional; the listener read into it.

Hearing this, Su Yiru knitted her brows and a fleeting, obscure gleam flitted across her face.

Holding Ye Mingmei’s hand, she said, “Why raise your voice? There is no need to get angry.”

“Mom, she’s trying to stir up trouble between us, and even you’re not siding with me,” Ye Mingmei pouted unhappily, acting like a petulant teenager and whining to Su Yiru.

“Mingmei! Your words are becoming more and more tactless. Miss Qin was just making a joke; she did not mean it in a personal way,” Su Yiru said, tapping the back of Ye Mingmei’s hand, her voice turning stern.

Ye Mingmei immediately withdrew her hand and dared not say another word.

She just looked aggrievedly at her reddened hand and bit her lip.

She had hoped that with Su Yiru present, someone would take her side.

But from their very first encounter, even Su Yiru sided with Qin Youxuan.

“Thank goodness Mrs. Ye is sensible; otherwise, I really would have had a hard time making myself clear today,” Qin Youxuan said, picking up the juice beside her and taking a sip.

Su Yiru was taken aback, then let out a laugh, “We only have Mingmei as our daughter, and she’s been spoiled since childhood. Miss Qin, please don’t mind her; Mingmei is just being a bit of a prima donna but she means no harm.”

In the end, a mother always has a soft spot for her daughter.

In every word and sentence, Su Yiru still shielded Ye Mingmei.

Qin Youxuan clearly understood they were family and didn’t truly expect Su Yiru to take her side; she responded politely to a few more exchanges, then stopped talking.

Dan Hanjie and Ye Zhanxing chatted about some business matters; such things were beyond the women’s understanding, so it wasn’t appropriate for them to interject.

Ye Zhanxing never wanted to get involved in the Dan Family’s internal strife, so he didn’t delve too deep, and once the meal arrived, both parties started to call attention to the food.

Qin Youxuan loved spicy food; she had specific preferences when it came to meals, and now, being in America and seldom seeing an authentic Sichuan table, her desire to eat was significantly aroused.

Picking up her chopsticks, she launched an attack on the diced chicken with chilis in front of her.

She also ate the mapo tofu, bite by bite, and what was originally just a side dish of chili peppers became her favorite.

Her lips were swollen from the spiciness, but she was reluctant to stop.

“Drink some water, eat fewer chilis, try this,” Dan Hanjie picked up a piece of fish-flavored shredded pork for her with his chopsticks.

Among the dishes on the table, only a few didn’t have chili peppers, yet Qin Youxuan hadn’t touched any of them.

Those spicy chopsticks were reaching everywhere, almost forgetting she was pregnant.
